LABOUR DOULA
A labour or birth doula is a person experienced in childbirth who provides evidence based information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a birther and their family before, during, and immediately after childbirth.
POSTPARTUM DOULA
A postpartum doula provides evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, parent–baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby.
FULL SPECTRUM DOULA
Full spectrum doulas are a growing group of doulas and justice rights advocates who are working to bring the doula care model to people across the full spectrum of pregnancy issues, including abortion, stillbirth and miscarriage, fertility and sex.
Knowing what is not included
Doulas are not medical professionals and the following tasks will not be performed by your Golden Egg doula:
Clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring
Your own decision making (medical or otherwise)
Offering of medical advice or diagnosing conditions
“Catching” your baby
Replacing the role of your partner

Studies have been conducted where a doula was present for the duration of a birth. These studies show a:
Shortened labour by an average of 41 minutes
31% decrease to the risk of dissatisfaction with a birth experience
39% decrease in the rate of cesarean section
15% increases in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
10% decrease in the use of pain medication
38% decrease to the risk of a low 5 minute APGAR score
